SUMMARY:Wall Display in the Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:There are 4 exhibitions to enjoy in the Arts Centre Gallery Bar. The Bollington Family History Club\, an informal group researching their own family histories from around the world as well as local history\, are showing their favourite areas of research. Intastitch\, a group of contemporary textile artists are displaying works of exquisite needlework that are sure to surprise you in their scope and take your breath away by their beauty. Admire also the array of prodigious artistic talent on display courtesy of canvases shown by Art on Tuesdays and Bollington Art Group.  \nThe display can be seen as follows:\n15 to 20 May: every evening from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm\n16 and 17 May: from 10.00 am to 9.30 pm\n21 May: 9.45 am to 12.00 pm; and 8.15 pm to 10.30 pm\n24 May: 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm\n26 May: 10.00 am to 12.30 pm; and 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm\n27 May: 7.00 pm to 10.30 pm\n28 May: 9.30 am to 12.30 pm; and 8.15 pm to 10.30 pm\nIn addition\, the Arts Centre Foyer exhibits a collaboration between Bollington Art Group and Bollington’s Primary Schools (Dean Valley\, St John’s\, Bollin Cross\, and Pott Shrigley). Children between the ages 9 and 11 years have created post-card sized art in response to the theme ‘summer’. DESCRIPTION:Captain Noah’s Floating Zoo (music byJoseph Horovitz and words by Michael Flanders). \nBollington Festival Choir will perform a variety of folk songs in their cantata for children\, based on the story of Noah’s Arc. The Festival Choir hardly needs any introduction\, having performed at every Bollington Festival since being founded over 60 years ago. It is a friendly choir retaining its village roots and having a strong sense of community spirit. It is known for imaginative programming and high standards of performance. The Choir’s history is deeply intertwined with the Festival as both were founded in 1964 by Dr John Coope MBE (1928-2005). Dr John conducted the Choir for 37 years before handing the baton to Donald Judge\, a member since 1976. Sadly\, Donald passed away in 2025 and the Choir is now conducted by Christopher Cromar. DESCRIPTION:Headliners Lee Bardsley and India Shan Merrett found their sound over pub pints and idle chat before going ahead and crafting it into beautiful songs woven together with threads of wistful melodies. Lee is a singer-songwriter/dreamer of poetic melodies that are born of the everyday and then transcended to the sublime with his gloriously heartfelt voice of human experience and wonder. \nMeanwhile\, Stirling Aston\, Jon Stirling\, and Les Renshaw\, well regarded stalwarts of the the folk music scene\, offer classic country/blues – plus a few classics from the great singer/songwriters\, which are sure to appeal to a broad spectrum of tastes. \nUncle Pleb (Steve Black and James Dennis) are Bollington’s own folk duo. Their original songs\, telling of strange characters and heroic deeds\, serve to both move and amuse the listener. Though they have only been making music together for the last two years\, they have won the ‘best newcomers’ competition at Upton Festival. Moreover\, they have taken the reigns of the Bollington Folk Club\, held at The Dog & Partridge every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.  \nOverall\, an evening of varied\, but fabulous folk music not to be missed!
